Android notifications not showing — or arriving hours late — is almost always a battery or permission policy, not a broken radio. Fix the OS rules before you reinstall WhatsApp for the third time.

1. Do Not Disturb and schedules

Settings → Notifications → Do Not Disturb (wording varies).

  • Turn DND off for a test
  • Delete leftover Bedtime / Wind Down / Work schedules
  • Check which apps and people are allowed to override

Samsung and Pixel both hide schedules one menu deeper than owners expect.

2. Per-app notification channels

Settings → Apps → [App] → Notifications

  • App notifications = On
  • Expand categories: messages, group chats, email, promotions
  • Mute promo channels; keep message channels loud

3. Battery killers (the real late-alert cause)

Aggressive OEMs park messengers until you open them. That looks like “notifications broken.”

4. Data saver and background sync
