TikTok not loading on Android after Android 16 / One UI 8 is cache, VPN, or Sleeping apps — not a global outage until Chrome is also dead.

Symptom map

Pattern Likely cause Move
Spinner on launch Cache / hung session Force-stop; clear cache
For You OK, Live/Search dead VPN / DNS / adblock VPN off; Private DNS automatic
White screen on one Wi‑Fi Captive portal LTE test
Record camera black, feed fine TikTok permission Apps → TikTok → Camera
Dies when you lock the phone Battery restriction Unrestricted / Never sleeping
After a Play system update Play Services Wait; update TikTok

1. Prove the network, not the app

Open Chrome on the same SSID. If Chrome fails, fix the radio — not TikTok. If Chrome works, open tiktok.com in Chrome. Site OK, app dead → app. Both dead → CDN/DNS.

Airplane Mode 15 seconds. VPN off. Private DNS off or Automatic. Data saver → exception for TikTok.

Keep the phone charged while Play Services settles — USB-C PD hub. Android 16 optimization on 7% looks like a white screen.

Play Store itself broken: Play Store.

2. OEM battery is why Live “never starts”

Samsung: Apps → TikTok → Battery Unrestricted; Device care → Never sleeping.
Pixel: Adaptive Battery exception.

This is the same parking that kills WhatsApp calls and Maps nav. Dual Messenger clones of TikTok: delete the clone or Unrestrict both.

3. Cache, then update, then reinstall

Settings → Apps → TikTok → Clear cache. Update from Play Store.

Clear data / uninstall only after you have 2FA. Local drafts can vanish. Prefer uninstall/reinstall over Clear data if the binary is wedged.

Storage full + overheating will stall the disk cache. Free space; case off.

4. Camera / Live hardware vs permission

TikTok → Permissions → Camera, Microphone, Notifications.

System Camera has stopped after a drop: Samsung camerareseat the flex, don’t default to a new module. Pixel blur after a screen: Pixel 9 Pro camera.

5. WebView and Android 16

TikTok embeds WebView for some sheets. Update Android System WebView and Chrome from Play. Android 16 leftovers: Android 16 problems.

iPhone in the same house: TikTok iOS 26.

Do / Don’t

Do Don’t
Chrome vs app test Assume a global outage on one captive SSID
Unrestrict battery Clear data before you can log in
VPN / Private DNS off Factory reset the Galaxy for a spinner
Reseat camera if Camera.app is dead Buy a module because TikTok preview is black
Update WebView Stack three adblockers and call it Android 16

Bottom line

Chrome test → VPN off → Unrestrict → clear cache → reinstall last. TikTok on Android 16 fails because the OEM parked it or a CDN filter sank Live — not because For You still playing means “the internet is fine.”

Frequently Asked Questions

TikTok white screen after One UI 8 — is TikTok down?

Check Chrome and Instagram. If only TikTok spins, it is cache, a CDN, or Play Services. If everything is slow, wait out Android 16 optimization first.

For You plays, Live and Search fail?

Those hit different hosts. VPN, Private DNS, and adblock hosts files often break Live first.

Clear cache vs Clear data?

Cache is safe. Clear data logs you out and can drop drafts. Backup login / 2FA first.

Works on Wi‑Fi, dies on LTE (or reverse)?

Captive portal, IPv6, or carrier DNS. Test the other network and VPN off.

Camera in TikTok is black but Camera.app is fine?

Re-grant Camera / Microphone. If the system Camera has stopped, reseat the flex on Samsung — don’t start with a new module.
